What the examiner looks for

Passing · Glide on one ski, push off its edge, move forward onto the new ski; skis diverge in a V.

Cue · “Push, glide, arrive.”

Key movement · The hip driving forward over the new gliding ski. Watch fore-aft stay centered or forward while the hips travel from ski to ski.

Lead-ups · Flat skating with poles; skating without poles.

Mistake · Pushing back instead of forward: the leg shoves backward and the hips stay behind instead of arriving over the new ski.

Fix · Move the hips forward over the new ski.

A simplified, illustrative model: straight down the fall line with the skis in a V (each opened about 16°); one push per half cycle: the gliding ski tips onto its inside edge as the leg extends to push, the other ski lifts and sets down forward in its new direction, and the hips arrive over it. The mistake pushes back: the hips and weight stay behind and never arrive over the new ski. Angles, loads and efforts follow the shape of real technique but are not measured data.
